For a Friend

Hey, everybody! Sorry for not posting anything in over a month but things have been pretty hectic what with working lots of overtime, working on community organizations, and dealing with my pets. I'm happy to announce that I have a new kitten that I found and rescued in July - she's an adorable little tortoiseshell which I named Snickerdoodle! She's about three months old and is a mischievous bundle of energy!

On another note, I lost my beautiful 17-year-old cat, Sabrina, on August 7. I had her since she was only four months old and she was the first member of my feline family, so her passing has been especially hard on me. She was the picture of health until a little over a month ago when she suddenly stopped eating and declined rapidly after that. Sabrina was always the queen of my household and acted that way - always held herself regally and had quite an attitude (she was half Siamese, so that explains a lot about her personality). She was my wonderful companion and best friend for a very long time, and I will miss her very much. Just as I dedicated a compilation to my cat, Stinkerbelle, who died last year at age 12, I compiled these songs which I dedicate to Sabrina, my dear and best friend...

Track listing for For a Friend:

1. Thank You for Being a Friend - Andrew Gold
2. My One True Friend - Bette Midler
3. For a Friend - The Bugaloos
4. Best Friend (Theme from "The Courtship of Eddie's Father") - Harry Nilsson
5. You've Got a Friend - Carole King
6. You've Got a Friend in Me - Randy Newman & Lyle Lovett
7. Old Friends - Ray Price, Roger Miller, & Willie Nelson
8. True Friend - Hannah Montana
9. My Best Friend - Weezer
10. The Friendship Theme - Instrumental from "Beaches" Soundtrack
11. That's What Friends Are For - Dionne Warwick & Friends
12. Anytime You Need a Friend - Mariah Carey
13. Friends (Theme from "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters") - Johnny Whitaker
14. Old Friends/Bookends - Simon & Garfunkel
15. I Will Be Your Friend - Amy Grant
16. You're My Best Friend - Queen
17. Friends Are Friends Forever - Michael W. Smith
18. Goodbye My Friend - Linda Ronstadt

Dear Esther,

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Sabrina. Beloved pets are really part of the family.

That's a very nice compilation of "friends" songs you posted - thank you.

I'd like to take this opportunity of wishing you, my good friend, a very happy birthday for tomorrow (August 21). Are you having a party this year? Anyway, however you celebrate it, I wish you a happy day and all the very best.

Esther, Sorry to hear of your loss. We have a kitty as well and she has been around for some 15 years now and we got her also as a nooby. My wife will be a mess when she finaly hits her last of 9. Missed you and welcome back. LP

All hail Sabrina! It's always a deep and heavy thing to deal with a beloved pet's passing - but it's nice to know that she got to give and receive love as only a true friend can. I never met your cat, but I'm thinking of her tonight.

Thank you all for your kind words on my loss of Sabrina. I'm glad you liked the compilation I made in her honor. Alas, just two weeks after losing Sabrina, my Mr.Spock joined her. I will be posting a compilation in his honor soon.

I can relate, because I have 2 cats(they rule the house) and have lost one to leukemia...it is heartbreaking..I was touched by your devotion to your animals..I applaud you sir for your compassion. You can take solace in knowing that they knew love, and had a great home.

Great blog you have here. Sorry to dig up an an old post, but I just wanted to say thanks for the comp, and I'm so sorry for your losses. I recently lost my only cat, Daniel, who I'd had since he was just a few weeks old. Like your Sabrina he was 17, and suddenly got really sick with heart problems. Barely two months later we lost him. I always thought of Queen's "You're My Best Friend" as his song... I'm still too heartbroken to make my own mix for him, so thanks again.
