Billy Vaughn - 12 Golden Hits from Latin America (1965)

Sorry I haven't been regular in my posts lately - just have had a lot going on. I tell you, this having to work for a living just takes up too much of my time! :-)

I have been acquiring some new treasures for my record collection though. I got about fifteen albums the other day from my voice-over instructor, and got ten albums from the HPB bargain bin today (Memorial Day sale!). So, I'll try to get some of these digitized soon so that I can share them with you (and also include some of the songs on my podcast, The Spin-O-Rama Hour).

For today, I have Billy Vaughn bringing you twelve hits from Latin America. It's some nice easy-listening music that you can dance to or have as background music for your dinner party. Enjoy!

Walter Brennan - Dutchman's Gold (1960)

Here's another from my "celebrity vocals" collection. I absolutely adored Walter Brennan in all the westerns and Disney movies he was in. Of course, he didn't really sing on his albums... he spoke the lyrics with the music as background. I guess you could say he was "rapping" - wow, he was a "rap" pioneer! Who knew?

Anyway, I really do like listening to Walter's albums. Some people might say they're pretty corny, but I like corny. And you can bet that some of the songs, like "Old Shep", bring a tear to my eye. ("Old Rivers" makes me cry every time!) I think one of the reasons that I like Walter's albums is that they remind me of simpler times. I'm often nostalgic for simpler times. Sigh. Something of note for this album is that the orchestra and chorus were conducted by Billy Vaughn!

1. Dutchman's Gold
2. Life Gits Tee-Jus, Don't It?

Billy Vaughn and His Orchestra - Music for the Golden Hours (1958)

this is
MUSIC FOR THE GOLDEN HOURS
the twilight hours
when memories are waves upon the shore
and love is fresh as sea wind on your lips...
this is music for the dancing hours, the romancing hours,
and for remembering...
Billy Vaughn is justly famous for his masterful way with a melody...for his skillful arranging that gives such unforgettable songs as these the treatment they deserve...and for his orchestra's polished performances, so perfectly suited to this album's gentle mood.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Enjoy!

Billy Vaughn and His Orchestra - Melodies in Gold (1957)

Today's post is one of Billy Vaughn's many recordings on the Dot label - "Melodies in Gold". Having played the sax myself, I'm especially fond of Billy Vaughn (and others who played or featured the sax in their recordings). This album contains great standards by such composers as Hoagy Carmichael, Johnny Mercer, Jerome Kern, and Cole Porter - some of my favorites! Check out Space Age Pop for a great bio on Billy Vaughn. Oh, yeah - I guess I should mention that it was the album cover that first grabbed my attention when I bought this album (yet another gem from the Half-Price Books clearance bin)!
